In a Nutshell

I am a Production Engineer at Facebook in Menlo Park. Prior to joining Facebook, I was a senior researcher at Hewlett Packard Labs in the Networking, IOT and Mobility Lab. Before HPE, I earned my Ph.D. from Northwestern University in the EECS department under the advisement of Fabián Bustamante. I also received a Master’s degree in Telecommunications from the University of Maryland, College Park under the sponsorship of the Fulbright scholarship and completed my undergraduate studies at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in the Dominican Republic where I received a B.Eng. in Telecommunications.

Projects and Software

  • Dynamic Network Fabric for NFV. An OpenStack enhanced dynamic network fabric that offers high availability, manageability, and performance required for carrier-grade. To react to network dynamics it provides underlay network aware PoP level rerouting. Within the PoP, it finds the best resource reallocation via bandwidth-guaranteed VM placement. In addition, it uses SLA verification to check if the reactions satisfy the SLAs. May 2017. More details →
  • Policy Canvas: Draw Your Policies for OpenStack Services. A highly user-friendly and simple front-end interface to manage policies like drawing diagrams on whiteboard or note. It provides a unified and simple graph drawing tool for specifying policies for multiple OpenStack services. April 2016. More details →
  • Supporting Network Bandwidth Guarantees with OpenStack: an Implementation Perspective. A PoC for bandwidth guarantee and work conservation in OpenStack based on HP Labs's published research papers: Gatekeeper and ElasticSwitch. May 2015. More details →
  • Dasu. A measurement experimentation platform for the Internet's edge. It supports both controlled network experimentation and broadband characterization, building on public interest on on the later to gain the adoption necessary for the former. Dasu has been installed over 95k times. More details →
  • namehelp. Better Web Performance with the DNS Service you Choose. Basically, namehelp improves your web performance when either you or your ISP uses a remote DNS service. It has been installed over 102k times. More details →

Personal

  • I am originally from the Dominican Republic, the land of eternal summer (ironically I live in Chicago now), beaches, merengue and baseball.
  • I'm a tennis fan (go Nadal!) and I enjoy doing some laps in the pool every once in a while.
  • I enjoy traveling and seeing new locations, my favorite place to live is Washington DC.
  • I am a former Fulbright grantee of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program sponsored by the US Department of State, which gave me the opportunity to pursue my M.S. in the US. Receiving this grant was one of the most educational and enriching experiences of my life.
  • While working at PUCMM I had the chance to meet many interesting people; closely working with the Rochester Institute of Technology, in particular with their Networking and Systems Administration Masters degree program and its faculty was a particularly enriching experience from which lasting friendships emerged.
